The private market won’t save us, but public housing can | Opinion

Housing has become unaffordable across the United States and in New England in particular, but the private market does not have to be the only solution. For decades, federal policy has focused almost exclusively on stimulating private development or providing vouchers to help low-income renters access private market housing. Despite these efforts, most New England states have less than 50 affordable units for every 100 extremely low-income renter households.
