As large-scale reductions across federal agencies continue to impact federal employees nationwide, the School of Public Policy organized a career transitions workshop designed to help alumni recalibrate and reimagine their professional paths.
The “Navigating Career Transitions” workshop brought together SPP alumni affected by federal job cuts, budget constraints and organizational restructuring. Over the course of two impactful days, participants engaged in reflective assessments, skill-building sessions and personalized coaching, all aimed at helping them navigate an evolving employment landscape while staying rooted in their commitment to public service.
The workshop was practical and empowering, offering sessions on rebranding for non-federal sectors, converting government terminology into industry-friendly language and strengthening resumes and cover letters to stand out in a competitive job market. Mock interviews and networking strategy sessions equipped attendees with tools for immediate use.
Individualized coaching matched each participant with a career advisor to help translate the workshop’s lessons into concrete next steps. The event also laid the groundwork for continued support, with a follow-up networking event then three weeks of personalized coaching sessions.
